Ondřej Huňáček, Garlic [ Regionální výrobce nebo produkt ]

Ondřej is a native of Barchov, where he still lives and works with his parents on the 4,4 ha land left by their ancestors as a legacy. His parents took over the imaginary baton of farming in 1994 and could help and support their son in farming.

The young farmer is an agricultural machinery repairer by education which is also still his full-time job.

The family does not have enough land to grow any cereals. Therefore, the choice fell on garlic. “You must enjoy working in the field. You must have love and gratitude for it” as Ondřej said.

First, they tried to plant the Ruský paličák variety which they currently grow on 600 m² and they have added the Bjetín variety. They do not use any chemical sprays when growing garlic and is all hand-rooted.

Garlic is a seasonal product that is why they are preserving it in jars filled with oil. Garlic in oil is excellent with smoked or grilled meat. It is not so aggressive in taste after being macerated. The product is not sterilized, it is only hand-loaded. The oil is great for use in cooking meats. They also successfully prepare garlic oil with rosemary and hot pepper. Perfect as a salad flavouring.

Ondřej Huňáček can use the Iron Mountain regional product certificate for his garlic from autumn 2023.

You can buy garlic from his yard along with potatoes, onions, pumpkins (mainly during Halloween) and other grown crops. The Huňáček family will be happy if you buy their quality goods and take your kid with you. They can have fun with local farm animals.
