ARBORETUM ŠTRAMBERK
Botanical garden and arboretum in Štramberk is situated in the territory of an old limestone quarry called "Dolní Kamenárka" and its surroundings. The ground is very rugged, with a sizable overtopping. The present area of the newly planted garden is almost 10 hectares. First plants were planted here in 1999. Calciphilous and thermophile vegetation of the Štramberk origin represents the main part of the future exposition of the rock garden. At its bottom there is a unique limestone marshland rich in water plants. Nature lovers will take delight in the stone labyrinth with the old quarry amphitheatre or the newly discovered cave with gorge and rock climbing marked - out lines on some cliffs.
Both fauna and flora in the area is various and there are many fossils hidden in the jurassic limestones. The arboretum becomes a paradise for both animals, plants and people.
Because the first plantations started in 1999, planted vegetation still hasn´t reached such a high standard to resist the rush of "laic interest" and the arboretum might create an impression of an uninteresting and unattractive sight.
In spring and summer on Saturdays and Sundays there are "dny otevřených dveří" - from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On working-days please contact us personally or call 732 170 019 (only Mondays from 4 to 6 p.m.)
