The Church of The Holy Trinity [ Church or cathedral ]

Nový Jičín, Kostel Nejsvětější Trojice
The Church of the Holy Trinity is situated at the edge of Janáčkovy sady park, in K Nemocnici street. This originally gothic structure, called "The Moravian chapel", originates from 1500. After the fire in the town in 1621 it was reconstructed into the renaissance style. The church originally used to serve as a graveyard church, in 16th century people of reform religion used to gather in there. After 1584, when the last catholic priest was banished from here, czech preachments were held here, first brotherly, later Lutheran, while in the parochial church there were german preachments. Since then the Church of The Holy Trinity has been also called "The Czech Church". The shrine began to serve to the Catholic Church in 1644 after its rededication. In 1657 the steeple of the church was reconstructed, in 1899 the structure was renovated as a whole, the facades were modified and a neogothic enlargement was added. The last improvement was done in 2002, when the cupola was taken down, newly built up and roofed. Inside the church you can find a very interesting baroque decoration from 17th and 18th century.
