Smetana's park, continuing Janáček's park, are the most extensive park of Nový Jičín. They are limited by arterial road leading to the hospital, on the east side by the block of buildings of former barracks addapted to residential houses. Cupola on one of them reminds of the observatory, that served to its purpose until the 1960's. In the north-western part was untill the 19th century pond and wells.

The area of today's park served to the cattle markets, then untill the year 1890 in the order the thirt cemetery of Nový Jičín occured. During World War I by the sweat of soldiers a park was built in 1915. Into today's appearance it was rebuilt in 1980?Ls.

A decoration of Smetana's park is sculptural group constituting a wonder of the Creation and laws of transmission. Its part is bust of geneticist Johhann Gregor Mendel (1822-1884), a native of nearby Hynčice. Sculpture group was unveiled in 1931. His creator is Silesian sculptor Josef Obeth. In the middle of the park we can find today little used bandstand from 1927 and near to it a bust of the classic of the czech music, composer Bedřich Smetana, a work of Vladimír Štrunc, festively unveiled in the year 1962. In the western part there is natural open-air cinema built instead of planned swimming pool in 1962. At the time of origins the park was named after german poet Eichendorf, who lived and created his verses in the small castle in nearby Sedlnice.

To the Smetana's park fits closely another spiritual stand, Spanish chapel. Its troubled history has its beginning in the Thirty Years' War. It is connected with the battle in front of the entrances to Nový Jičín in 1621, when the emperor defenders of a city were buried, called "the black Spanish" - Neapolitans, trashed by the military of Jan Jiří Krnovský. Over their grave there was raised first a wooden cross, then there was built a wooden chapel and in 1725 - 1727 build a masonry chapel. To the chapel took place pilgrim procession and a way to this chapel was surrounded by the sculptures of the Saints.

Under the emperor Josef II. the chapel was canceled and rebuilt to a salt stock. Thanks to a merit of the citizen František Mech the chapel was restored and in 1841 it was given back to religious purposes.
