The town of Mikulov arose from a market village in the second half of the 14th century.
The historic core comprises the extensive castle, rebuilt as a chateau, the Parish Church of St Wenceslas, the square with the town hall, Renaissance and canons´ houses, the Dietrichstein tomb, the town walls, a synagogue and a plague pillar.
